No matter how well thought out and designed your real estate website is, it still won't generate leads if no one can find it. While the process of optimizing your real estate web site for search engines is very technical, our search engine optimization techniques can be boiled down to three goals:

- Providing the content search engines are looking for when they rank your site.
- Setting up your site in a way that makes it easy for search engines to "see" the content that is there.
- Building your "link popularity" (number of other sites linking to yours) to build your site's "importance" according to search engines.

Content, content....

....and more content. Rich content on the areas you serve is one of the best ways to boost your search engine rankings. We identify the target search terms you want to rank for, write content that is both useful to your visitors and beneficial to your search engine ranking, then analyze your site for keyword density. We also make sure we choose the right keywords to use in the meta tags on your site. Meta tags, essentially, are an element of the HTML code on your site that tells search engines what your site is about. Title tags and headings are additional coding elements that we use to emphasize your target keywords.

But there's more to content than just keyword density. Search engines have become more "intelligent," making them better able to provide sites that are relevant to what searchers are looking for. Latent semantic indexing is a mathematical technique that search engines use to derive meaning from words. Basically, a computer program can't interpret the meaning of language on a page, but it can recognize patterns of words. For example, a website on San Francisco might include references to "Golden Gate Bridge," "bay," and "ocean." Search engines will recognize that those words often appear together with "San Francisco," so having related words such as those could help a website rank higher for the search term of "San Francisco."

To simplify it further, this means that if your target search term is "Indianapolis real estate", having content relevant to Indianapolis, i.e. about neighborhoods or suburbs of Indianapolis, area attractions, and others can boost your ranking. This is one reason we emphasize having websites with lots of content on your local market, not solely relying on keywords alone.

Learning to crawl....

....or, rather, learning how to help the search engine so they can "crawl" your site more frequently and effectively. Search engines use programs, often called "spiders" to examine, or "crawl" pages on the Web. While some agencies may promise to submit your site to thousands of search engines, this may be an unnecessary step. If a site is properly indexed and a good external linking structure is set up, the search engine spiders will be able to easily find your site and crawl all of its pages. If this isn't the case, though, many of the pages on your site might not be getting "crawled", which means the search engines don't even realize those pages are there. We'll make sure the navigation of your site is set up to make sure the spiders don't miss your little corner of the World Wide Web.

It's all about popularity....

....of links, that is. Link popularity is the measure of how many other sites are linking back to your site. More links can mean a higher ranking for you. Additionally, which sites the links are coming from matters too. Google assigns websites a rank from 1 to 10 of their importance, using a variety of factors. Having links from higher-ranked sites pushes the importance ranking of your site up. It's just like high school, the more "popular" friends you had, the more popular you were considered!
